Alright, so, I’ve been eyeing those Prada Re-Edition 2000 bags for a while now. You know, the ones that are like a total throwback but still super chic? I finally decided, “Screw it, I’m gonna try to remake one myself!” I mean, why not, right? The official flagship store has them, but they’re a bit out of my price range at the moment. So, I started this project.

First things first, I needed to gather some materials. I remembered that they use this “Re-Nylon” stuff, which is supposedly made from recycled plastic found in the ocean and whatnot. So I went on a little hunt. I ended up finding some old nylon bags and thought, “Close enough!” I also grabbed some zippers, thread, and a few other bits and bobs from a local craft store. Nothing fancy, just the basics, you know?

Then came the actual making part. I ain’t no professional seamstress, let me tell you that. I started by cutting up the nylon bags into the right shapes. I just kind of eyeballed it based on pictures I found online. Some were from the official Prada website showing the Re-Edition 2000, and some were close-ups from fashion blogs. I wanted to get the size and shape as close as possible. Both the 2000 and 2005 Re-Editions are small bags, so I had to be careful with my measurements.

  • Cutting the nylon: This was tricky. I used a pair of scissors I found in my kitchen drawer. Not ideal, but it did the job.
  • Sewing the pieces together: I borrowed an old sewing machine from my grandma. It kept jamming, but I managed to stitch the main body of the bag together.
  • Adding the zipper: This was the hardest part. I messed up a few times and had to rip out the stitches and start over. Eventually, I got it on there, though it’s not the prettiest zipper installation you’ve ever seen.

For the strap, I just used a strip of the same nylon material. I thought about adding some leather details because I saw some versions with “Saffiano leather,” but honestly, that seemed way too complicated. I wanted to keep it simple. Reinterpreting their infamous nylon shoulder bag was the main goal here, so I stuck to nylon.

The Final Result

After a few days of struggling, swearing, and lots of coffee, I finally had something that resembled a bag. It’s definitely not perfect. The stitching is a bit wonky, and the shape is a little off. But you know what? It’s got character! And it kind of, sort of, maybe looks a little bit like the Prada Re-Edition 2000. At least, that’s what I’m telling myself.

I took a look at the interior label of some pictures of the real Prada Re-Edition 2000 bag to see if I could replicate that too. But in the end, I decided to leave it out. It was just too much work for a small detail. Some say the crystal edition of the bag has its own unique features, but I wasn’t going for that level of detail.

Would I recommend doing this? Hmm, maybe not if you’re looking for perfection. But if you’re up for a challenge and don’t mind a bit of a wonky, handmade vibe, then go for it! It’s definitely a conversation starter, at least. And hey, I saved a bunch of money, so that’s a win in my book.

So there you have it, my adventure in trying to remake a Prada bag. It was a wild ride, but I’m pretty happy with my little “Frauda” bag. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go rock my new creation. Maybe no one will notice the difference!
