Okay, here’s my experience about remaking a PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag:
So, I saw this PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag online the other day, and I was like, “I gotta have it!” But the price tag? It is a little bit expensive. I’m pretty handy, so I thought, “Why not try to make one myself?”
First things first, I needed to find some materials. I looked everywhere for that “Saffiano” leather. That’s not cheap at all. Then, I found some pretty good leather in a local store, it looks very close to the real one.
Next up, the hardware. Zippers, buckles, all that stuff. I hit up a few online shops and found some that looked okay. Not exactly the same as the real deal, but good enough for me. The color of the bag I choose is coffee, such a classic color.
I printed out a bunch of pictures of the bag from the internet, trying to get all the angles and details. It’s got this kind of boxy shape, with two zippered pockets on the outside. I made some rough sketches and started cutting the leather. I’ve worked with leather before, so I know the basic. Cutting is always the hardest part, you need to be very carefully, use a very sharp knife.
Sewing it all together was a real pain. My little sewing machine was struggling with the thick leather. I broke a few needles, and my fingers were sore, but I managed to get it all stitched up. I put in a lot of time to deal with the sewing part.
- I used a lot of hand stitching, especially around the zippers and the handles.
- The handles were tricky – I had to wrap them around some cord to get that rounded shape.
The lining was easier. I just used some fabric, and sewed it into a bag shape before attaching it to the inside of the leather. I did some research online to get a good idea of the shape of the original bag. It is very helpful.
Finally, I added the hardware. The little feet on the bottom, the buckles on the strap, the PRADA logo (which I found online, it is a replica). That really brought the whole thing together.
Honestly, it took way longer than I expected. A lot of work! But it was a fun project. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It’s not exactly like the real thing, but it’s close enough for me. And it was a lot cheaper than buying the original!
I’ve been using it for a few weeks now, and it’s holding up pretty well. I even got a few compliments on it! Maybe I’ll try making another one, but next time I might try a different color. What do you think? Any suggestion for my next project?
