Okay, so I saw this Yves Saint Laurent LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG online, you know, the one they call “BOX SAINT LAURENT”. It’s a real looker, but man, the price tag! So, I thought, “Why not try making one myself?” It seemed like a fun little project.
First, I started gathering pictures of this YSL bag. I just searched for “LE CARRé SATCHEL in BOX SAINT LAURENT” and found a bunch. I looked at the front, the sides, the back, the whole nine yards. I noticed that it is decorated with a “SAINT LAURENT PARIS-engraved square clip fastening,” which is a fancy way of saying it’s got a square clip with words on it. I saved all these pics to my computer so I could get the details right.
Next, I started figuring out the size. I used some of the online store pictures that showed the bag next to a model. I took measurements and estimated it to be a pretty good size for carrying my stuff around. It did not look too big, and not too small, either.
Then came the fun part – choosing the material. The real bag is made of some fancy leather, but I just went with a thick, sturdy fabric I found at a local craft store. It’s black, just like the one I saw on the online store. The real one says it’s made of “BOX SAINT LAURENT” but I have no idea what that means, honestly. I started cutting the fabric according to the measurements I had. I made sure to cut out pieces for the front, back, sides, and the flap. I even tried to mimic that “front flap” design I saw in the pictures.
Sewing it all together was a bit of a challenge. I’m no expert, but I got my trusty old sewing machine out and started stitching. I sewed the sides to the front and back pieces, then attached the bottom. It was slow going, but I kept checking those pictures to make sure I was on the right track.
- First, I sewed the main body of the bag.
- Then, I worked on that front flap.
- Finally, I attached the strap and the clip.
The Clip
For the clip, I found a square metal piece at the craft store. It wasn’t exactly the same, but it had that same square shape. I couldn’t engrave “SAINT LAURENT PARIS” on it, so I just left it plain. It still looked pretty good, though. Then, I added a strap. I used the same fabric and made it long enough to wear comfortably over my shoulder. I attached it to the sides of the bag, and voila!
It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s got that same classic, boxy shape as the YSL bag. And you know what? It holds all my stuff just fine. Plus, I made it myself! It wasn’t easy, but it was definitely a fun experience. Now I have a bag that looks somewhat like the expensive one but made by my own hands.
