Okay, so I’ve been wanting to remake a classic Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Mini-Bag for a while now, and I finally did it! It’s such a timeless piece, and I was really excited to try my hand at recreating it.

First, I had to find the right leather. This bag is known for its Saffiano leather, which has that really distinct cross-hatch texture. It took some searching, but I managed to find some beautiful black calf leather that had a similar look and feel. I ordered a good amount because, you know, mistakes happen, and I wanted to have extra.

Then came the hardware. This bag has some pretty specific gold-tone hardware, and getting that right was important. I spent hours browsing online shops and finally found the perfect pieces – the little feet, the buckles, the zipper pulls, everything. It felt like a treasure hunt, honestly!

  • Cutting the leather – This was probably the most nerve-wracking part. I made a pattern based on a ton of pictures and measurements I found online. It needed to be precise because I only had so much leather. I did it and used a really sharp rotary cutter, and cut each piece out very slowly and carefully.
  • Stitching – I don’t have one of those fancy industrial sewing machines, so I stitched the whole thing by hand. It took forever, but the result was so worth it. I used a saddle stitch, which is super strong and looks really professional. This bag should be durable.
  • Adding the handles and strap – The handles were made by rolling and stitching strips of leather. It took a while to get them even and the correct rounded shape. The shoulder strap was a bit easier since I decided to make it adjustable, just like the original. I attached the strap and handles.
  • Putting it all together – Finally, it was time to assemble all the pieces. This was the most satisfying part, seeing it all come together. Lining the bag was a bit tricky, but I managed to get it in there nice and smooth.

The Finishing Touches

The iconic Prada enamel triangle logo was the last piece of the puzzle. I made it and put it on. It gives the bag that authentic touch.

I’m so happy with how it turned out! It’s not perfect, but it’s a pretty good replica of the Prada Galleria Mini-Bag. It was a lot of work, but honestly, it was a labor of love. Now I’ve got a beautiful, classic bag that I made myself, and that’s a pretty great feeling.
