Hey guys, what’s up? I’m back again with another project! You know I love my designer bags, and PRADA has always been one of my favorites. But man, those price tags can be a real pain in the neck! So, I thought, why not try to remake one myself? Today, I’m going to share with you my experience remaking the Small PRADA Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag.
First things first, I needed to find a good reference. So, I went straight to the source. You know where to look if you want to see pictures of the bag. I mean you can find pretty much anything there. Just look it up.
Then I spent hours studying the pictures, I needed to get a feel for the bag’s dimensions, the type of leather, the hardware, everything. I even watched some videos of people unboxing the bag, just to get a better sense of how it moves and feels.
Next, I had to gather my materials. For this project, I tried to use my old clothes and materials. I don’t know if you remember, but I found a lot of brands in the marketplace online. I found some Saffiano leather that looked pretty close to the real thing. It wasn’t cheap, but it was definitely cheaper than buying a brand-new PRADA bag!
I also needed some sturdy fabric for the lining, some metal hardware for the logo, zipper, and feet, and some strong thread to hold it all together. I managed to find most of these things at my local craft store. A friend who is good at this stuff gave me some tips on what to look for, which was super helpful.
Once I had everything I needed, it was time to start cutting and sewing. Now, I’m no professional seamstress, but I’m pretty handy with a sewing machine. I started by cutting out the leather according to the measurements I had taken from the reference pictures. Then, I carefully sewed the pieces together, making sure to reinforce the seams so the bag would be nice and strong.
The trickiest part was probably attaching the hardware. I had to use a special tool to punch holes in the leather and then carefully hammer the rivets in place. It took some time, and I definitely messed up a few times, but eventually, I got it right.
- Cutting the leather: This took me a whole afternoon. I was so scared of messing it up!
- Sewing the body: Surprisingly, this went pretty smoothly. It was kind of therapeutic, actually.
- Attaching the hardware: Ugh, this was a nightmare. I bent a few rivets and almost gave up.
- Making the strap: I decided to go with a simple, adjustable strap. It was easier than trying to replicate the original one.
After many hours of work, my PRADA Galleria remake was finally finished! It’s not perfect, of course. There are a few little imperfections here and there, but overall, I’m really happy with how it turned out. It looks pretty darn close to the real thing, and it feels great to carry around.
This project was a lot of fun, and it definitely saved me a ton of money. Plus, it’s always satisfying to create something with your own two hands. If you’re thinking about trying to remake a designer bag yourself, I say go for it! Just be prepared to put in some time and effort, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes along the way. You might surprise yourself with what you can achieve!
Alright, that’s it for today’s post. I hope you enjoyed following along with my bag-making adventure. Until next time, stay crafty!
