Okay, so I’ve been eyeing those cute little Fendi bucket bags for a while now, you know, the Mon Tresor ones. I finally decided to go for it and try to make my own version. I mean, why not? I love a good DIY project, and saving some serious cash is always a plus.
First things first, I needed to figure out what I was working with. I spent a good chunk of time just staring at pictures of the real Fendi bags online. I zoomed in on all the details, like how the leather looked, the way the logo was stamped on, and how the drawstring worked. It seemed simple enough, just a small bucket shape with a drawstring top, a handle, and a longer strap.
Gathering My Stuff
Next up, materials. I didn’t want to use real leather, mostly because I’ve never worked with it before, and it seemed kind of intimidating. Plus, it’s expensive! So, I went to the local craft store and found some pretty decent faux leather that had a nice texture. I also grabbed:
- A gold-colored drawstring, similar to the original Fendi bag
- Some gold rings and a clasp for the straps
- Matching thread
- Needles and my trusty sewing machine
- Some cardboard for a template
Getting Down to Business
I started by making a rough template out of cardboard. I figured a circle for the base and a rectangle for the body would do the trick. It took a few tries to get the size right, I wanted it to be mini, just like the real deal.
Once I was happy with the template, I traced it onto the faux leather and carefully cut out the pieces. Sewing the faux leather was a bit tricky, it kept slipping under the machine foot, but I eventually got the hang of it. I sewed the rectangle piece into a tube and then attached the circle base. It was actually starting to look like a bag!
The next step was to add the Fendi logo. That is the key point of the bag. I decided to make the embossed effect. I drew the logo onto the leather. Using the embossing tool, I carefully went over the lines I had drawn, applying even pressure to create an embossed effect. It looked good, but not perfect, it was my first time to make that effect, you know. Anyway, I think that will be better next time.
The drawstring part was surprisingly easy. I just created a little channel at the top of the bag and threaded the drawstring through. Then, I attached the handle and the longer strap using the gold rings and clasp.
The Final Result
Honestly, I’m pretty stoked with how it turned out! It’s definitely not a perfect replica of the Fendi Mon Tresor, but it’s got the same vibe. It’s cute, it’s mini, and it holds my essentials. Plus, I made it myself, which makes it even more special. It was a fun weekend project, and I saved a ton of money. If you’re thinking about trying to make your own version of a designer bag, I say go for it! It’s a great way to get creative and express your personal style without breaking the bank.
I have carried it to the parties and received some compliments. Someone even asked me where I bought it. I was very happy and glad to tell her that I made it by myself. It feels very good! I think I will make some other bags in the future.
